Cyber               slacking               is               the               ever               constant               distraction               that               has,               in               my               view,               been               a               growing               issue               since               chat               rooms               sprung               over               the               Internet.

Since               Internet               games               and               chat               there               has               appeared               blogs,               Youtube,               vlogs,               and               in               more               recent               years,               social               networks               such               as               Facebook,               MySpace,               Yearbook,               Classmates,               and               many               others.

Facebook               is               perhaps               the               most               popular               social               network               that               is               accessed               every               day,               more               than               once               for               most,               for               extended               periods               of               time               by               over               one               millions               users               in               several               countries.

A               site               like               Facebook               has               become               the               new               trend               in               procrastination               since               the               first               game               console               in               regards               to               students.

For               office               workers,               the               Internet               is               more               of               a               recent               type               of               procrastination.

that               in               April               2010,               57               million               Americans               connected               to               social               networking               sites               like               those               mentioned               above               for               at               least               15               minutes               a               day.

Almost               half               of               those               Americans               visited               adult               websites               via               their               office               computers               on               company               time.

According               to               Jackson               Township's               Family               and               Community               News               in               the               article               "Cyberslacking               at               an               all-time               high               in               the               workplace"               by               Jackson,               NJ,               64%               of               employees               use               company               work               time               to               browse               social               networking               websites.

Jamie               Leasure               of               Pandora               Corporation               says               that,               "               Employers               have               every               legal               right               '"               and               in               some               cases               a               duty               '"               to               monitor               employee               Internet               activity,"               says               Pandora               Corp.

"And               in               this               economy,               companies               can't               afford               lost               productivity.

They               need               to               ensure               that               their               employees               are               efficient               and               their               business               is               running               smoothly."               Though               she               points               out               the               other               side               of               the               same               coin,               "There               is               a               difference               between               checking               your               personal               email               to               reply               to               your               mother               and               spending               10               minutes               of               every               hour               updating               your               social               network               profile."               Apparently               26%               of               a               four               hour               work               day               is               spent               on               social               networking               and               other               sites.

The               amount               of               employees               is               divided               eight               to               eight               that               either               do               their               work               or               do               near               to               practically               nothing               while               surfing               the               web.

               I               do               feel               that               both               schools               and               work               places               should               put               restrictions               on               at               least               adult               websites.

As               for               all               other               websites,               a               monitoring               system               is               available               that               can               be               installed               on               all               school               and               work               computers               to               report               what               websites               were               visited               and               for               how               long               as               well               as               a               text               monitoring               system               that               keeps               track               of               chat               logs               that               are               compatible.

Of               course               in               schools,               this               would               be               broken               down               to               when               a               student               logs               in               whereas               with               company               computers,               the               computers               themselves               can               be               individually               and               simultaneously               monitored               unless               of               course               the               individual               brings               their               own               computer               to               work.
               I               don't               currently               have               these               restrictions               applied               to               either               work               or               school.

There               is               no               need.

I               don't               work               around               or               on               a               computer               for               my               job.

This               is               not               accounting               for               my               online               writing               communities               which               I               participate               in               and               earn               income               at               home.

As               for               school,               I               am               a               full               time               attendee               online               using               my               personal               laptop               at               home.
               In               terms               of               monitoring               cyber               slacking               with               cell               phones               for               instance,               I               first               want               to               say               that               there               are               laws               that               prohibit               monitoring               and               recording               texts,               web               use,               and               phone               calls               depending               on               individual               state               law               or               service               provider.

In               Wyoming               it               isn't               illegal               to               record               phone               calls.

But,               you               can               track               texts               and               web               use               depending               on               your               provider's               policy:               whether               or               not               you               need               a               court               order.

There               are               ways               past               this,               but               I               won't               give               ideas.
               Still,               this               type               of               monitoring               can               pin               point               how               much               time               an               employee               spends               doing               their               work               no               matter               the               job.

In               fact,               I've               heard               stories               of               an               employee               being               monitored               and               their               boss               came               to               find               out               that               much               time               was               being               spent               surfing               the               internet               on               a               cell               instead               of               working.

My               only               question               was,               why               not               look               at               the               videotape               since               this               was               a               food               franchise?

Then               again,               they               (the               boss               and               company)               did               find               out               through               monitoring               the               cyber               slacking               and               texting               and               phone               calls               that               money               was               being               stolen               and               laundered;               placing               this               sort               of               monitoring               in               the               middle               of               the               morals               spectrum.
               Just               so               people               know,               the               privacy               law               is               a               hot               topic               of               debate.

While               restrictions               and               violations               exist,               I               have               not               found               a               more               solid               foundation               when               it               comes               to               federal               maters               such               as               when               the               government               is               involved.

The               Constitution               makes               no               explicit               mention               of               the               right               of               privacy."               (2)               I               caution               everyone               to               be               careful               of               monitoring               especially               businesses,               because               immoral               exercise               of               monitoring               cyber               slacking               can               lead               to               a               charge               of               stalking.
